PREFACE

Purvottar Railway Mahavidyalay, Sonpur, Bihar is only the centre for higher education at degree level in 10-15 Km surrounding. This college was established by Railway in the year 1978 and inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Railway Minister Prof. Madhu Dandwate  in the railway premises for railway wards and kids of whole surrounding localities. The Railway College is an affiliated unit of Jai Prakash University, Chapra as Deficit Grant College and embracing three faculties i.e. Arts, Science and Commerce including BCA conducted under Distant Education Program.

The institution was granted affiliation by State Govt. at inter level in 1979,at degree level in 1981and permanent affiliation in 1990.This institution provides teaching at Inter and Degree Hons. level in 17 subjects of different streams. The laboratories are well equipped .The Examination Deptt. and Office are well computerized and the whole institution is under surveillance facilitating the maintenance of discipline .

It has prime location situated just besides the railway station and in the heart of Lord Shiva at the bank of Holy River in Harihar kshetra. It has all the inbuilt infrastructure , excellent facilities and peaceful environment for study and research. This institution inculcate values, identify hidden talents and provide opportunities for the students to realize their full potentialities .The college is full of talented faculty members inspiring the students and make them conscious for their career .

A beautiful park and stadium attached with this institution for games and sports activities. The present college administration is highly conscious for smooth running of the college and maintaining its identity. It is a landmark/icon of this area/society and fulfils aspirations of the youths .The entire members of the college are in hope for your kind co-operation.
